Scripps Park Golf Course

I played this course years ago, when I lived in Mt.Sterling, which is a neighboring town, back before they had built the new back nine. It was always in better shape than the course which I was a member at Rolling Greens in Mt.Sterling, but they have more people in Rushville , and this was a factor as they always had more money. It appeared today that they were no longer spending money on upkeep...maybe just too early in the season.

Today I teed off on the first hole and drove it right down the middle of the fairway and although I was able to find my ball, Luck had it as I was playing a yellow ball, my playing partner was not as lucky. We circled around in five inch deep fairway grass for ten minutes, with the complete disbelief that this course was in such poor shape, and that they were charging people to play such a hayfield. all of the front nine was in this condition. The back nine , which was the reason that I went to play this course was a little better, at least you could find your ball when it was sitting up in the middle of the fairway.

The greens on this course were near to perfect which was a real treat, putting on such nice greens this time of year in Illinois.

On the back nine there is a hole, #15 I think, that offers some confusion as where you are going but if you ever play this course twice you would know better as to where the hole is so that you could play your tee shot accordingly.

#17 is their signature hole and it is a nice par three playing at 145 according to the sign from the white tees, there was more confusion as to the correct yardage the sign said one thing and the yardage on the sprinkler head said something else and the score card says 125, a soft nine iron gets you to the three tiered green and it is best to be on the same level that the cup is on, because if your not , you had better expect bogey or better.

Would I play this course again? I'm supposed to play there the first week of April. The greens keeper fold me tomorrow he was going to knock the fairways down to playing height so if your planing on going anytime soon be sure to bring your gloves , as I'm sure that they will want some help with all of those bales.
